RT 152: The Pre-war plan of standardising on the RT was put back on course on 17 April 1944, when an agreement was made with AEC for the supply of 1000 chassis as soon ‘as circumstances permitted’, following the experience gained with the 151 so-called Pre-war RT’s which were delivered in 1940. The 3RT type had a new engine, the A204, and had a chassis which was cut short behind the rear axle, like RT1, so that the staircase, and the cab were cantilevered from the body. The RT3 production was factored so that parts were fully interchangeable, something never attempted before in bus bodybuilding. Park Royal bodied RT152, HLW 139 and the first post-war RT entered service in May 1947 from (T) Leyton Garage. It was later to have the unique distinction of retaining its red and cream window frames livery and also received a standard offside route number holder.
