With its dipped window lines, the 7ft 6in wide Crossley DD42/3 and Crossley steel-framed body was designed to Manchester Corporation’s specification. Some features resulted from a demonstration visit to Manchester by a London RT – such as the large windscreen and low set radiator which gave an excellent view for the driver. The single headlamp, too, was an RT feature – not perpetuated on later vehicles in either city. In its early days, 2954-2959 were equipped with a turbo-transmitter instead of a conventional gearbox and would usually be found working service 1 from Parrs Wood Garage. The HOE7 engine proved the weak point of the post-war Crossley and those on 2954-2959 were replaced by Leyland engines.
