Corgi OM45121 Metrobus – WMPTE – West Midlands

West Midlands Passenger Transport Executive commenced operations in October 1969. ‘Wumpty’, as it was affectionately known inherited a fleet of 2,100 vehicles from the municipal transport undertakings of Birmingham, West Bromwich, Walsall and Wolverhampton, and adopted a livery based on that of Birmingham City Transport. During the late seventies, close co-operation with Birmingham bus builders Metro Cammell resulted in a new standard bus, the Metrobus and a fleet of 1,131 was amassed. Our model Mark 1 Metrobus, was new to Birchills Garage at Walsall in 1981. 2222 (GOG 222W) was for some time the Walsall Garage Showbus.
