The Land-Rover remained unchanged for ten years, but was substantially updated in April 1958 to create the Series II. The front and rear wings had a little ‘barrel side’ added to them, and a modesty skirt was introduced along the sill, effectively hiding the exhaust and chassis. The cockpit was given proper seats and glass side windows, while the turning circle was substantially reduced. The biggest change was a new 2,286cc petrol engine, which much improved the performance. The vehicle modelled is one of the AA’s many Land-Rover Series II Motorway Patrol vehicles, which were a familiar and comforting sight during the sixties.
