Product Description
XR728 first flew on March 17, 1965 and delivered to No.23 Sqn at RAF Leuchars in November 1967 followed by No.56 Sqn, at Akrotiri, Cyprus from 1971 until 1976. In June 1978, it was delivered to RAF Binbrook, Lincolnshire, which remained its home until retirement, serving with No’s.5 and 11 Squadrons and finally the Lightning Training Flight. It became the personal mount of the OC RAF Binbrook, Air Commodore John Spencer and was consequently allocated his personal code letters ‘JS’ on the fin. Withdrawn from use in May 1988, XR728 was delivered to the Lightning Preservation Group the following month, making its final flight to Bruntingthorpe, Leicestershire, on June 24, 1988. Since then, it has been kept in immaculate condition by the Group and regularly makes fast taxi-runs down the runway at public open days. SOLD OUT
