The Boulton Paul Defiant had some success against German bombers thanks to its heavy turret armament. The RAF would often operate the Defiant alongside the Hurricane in mixed formations confusing and trapping German fighters. When caught on its own, however, the Defiant proved vulnerable to the Luftwaffe’s Messerschmitt Bf 109s.

On 26th August 1940 Defiants of RAF No.264 Squadron intercepted a large formation of enemy aircraft and shot down a Bf 109 and at least three Do 17s, including 5K+AR which was recently discovered and recovered from the Goodwin Sands. This model is the perfect companion piece for the Corgi replica of 5K+AR.
