First introduced to London by way of five prototypes in 1978, the MCW Metrobus entered service with London Transport in considerable numbers finally totalling 1,485 including a few second hand models obtained in 1988.

This model depicts M1085 in service with the Wandle District of London Buses working from Brixton garage on route 109. It was one of a batch fitted with Cummings engines which first entered service at Brixton from 19th November 1984 and it remained at Brixton until 1989.

The MCW Metrobus was the first bus to be designed and built completely by MCW and London Transport was the largest operator of these buses although Travel West Midlands was not far behind. Steadily replaced by low floor vehicles from the turn of the century the last few which had been retained as training buses were withdrawn in 2008.
