Glasgow Corporation Crossley C1 was a historic vehicle for the Transport Department. It introduced the new ‘3-box’ destination arrangements, the new numbering system based on chassis-type codes and the short-lived ‘green-roof’ livery. It was also fitted with the Brockhouse turbo-transmitter, giving clutchless gear changes; useful for training Glasgow tram-drivers to adapt to buses. C1 was taken to Larkfield depot, for training initially, and converted to a conventional clutch and gearbox in 1950. It gained a cream roof repaint and was well known for its regular use on the 31 service from St Enoch’s Square to Carmunnock via Gorbals. It was sold in 1958 to Dodds of Troon (AA Motor Services) and worked along the Ayrshire coast for another 5 years. Dual destnation / split run.
