The MKIII Cortina’s Detroit inspired lines were starting to look dated when the much more European MKIV was launched in 1976. Using the existing MkIII platform, designer Uwe Bahnsen penned an elegant but understated new car with 15% larger windows, making the interior feel very spacious. The car modelled is an example of the top of the range Ghia, which featured thicker pile carpeting, external Ghia crests, cloth-faced door casings, boot light, glovebox light and wooden door caps. Carrozzeria Ghia were a respected Italian coachbuilder and were purchased by Ford in 1970, gradually being introduced as a trim level thereafter. Vital statistics: Engine capacity: 1993cc Power: 98bhp@5200rpm Maximum speed: 100mph 0-60 mph: 11.0secs
