Partners Douglas Massey & Harry Wilcox established Massey Wilcox Transport in 1954. Starting with one vehicle each, based in Gurney Slade, near Bath. A customer base was built from the local industries, producing limestone, paper packaging, animal feed and foodstuffs. The fleet expanded and further benefited from a growing local print trade, which replaced the area’s declining coal-mining industry. In 1978 a move to nearby Chilcompton enabled expansion and the ability to offer warehousing. 2002 saw the opening of the Avonmouth Rail Freight terminal, where the Company receives trains daily, bringing freight into the warehouse for storage and onward delivery throughout the UK. Today the fleet numbers 75 vehicles and supports a total of 300,000 sq ft of warehousing offering distribution services throughout the UK and Europe for consignments ranging from 1 pallet to full loads.
