Corgi VA11601 Peugeot 309 MK2 1.9 GTI – Cherry Red

Project C28, as the 309 was known during its development, started out as a saloon version of the 205, but by the time it was launched in 1985 it had morphed into a hatchback 330mm longer and just 72kg heavier than the 205. It retained the smaller car’s door pressings to save tooling costs and the GTI version modelled here also shared its Type XU single overhead cam engine with the 205 GTI. The 309 GTI was launched in February 1987 and soon became a cult car amongst enthusiasts, combining the 205’s famous handling prowess and performance with an interior large enough to be used by a family.
