Almost immediately after the Land Rover’s launch in 1948, sales far exceeded Rover’s expectations as so many organisations saw a role for it, including the Police, who quickly adopted the Land Rover, using them ever since. It’s no exaggeration to say that the availability of the Land Rover completely revolutionised rural policing, allowing officers to travel to areas that had hitherto only been traversable on foot or horseback; meaning it soon became an essential armour for forces such as the Cumberland and Westmorland Constabulary.
