R. I. Stamper Haulage Ltd based in Kirkbride was established in 1950 by Richard Irving Stamper, known by most as Dick. Dick started off with one wagon, a Bedford 4 wheeler. In 2000, after half a century in the livestock transport business, Dick retired leaving a strong fleet of 25 vehicles including Scanias’s, DAF’s and Volvo’s to his son John. By this time Stamper’s were also involved in general haulage but have kept the company’s original two tone green livery which is well known in Cumbria and throughout the UK. Now in 2009, John’s son Colin and daughter Gillian help to run the family business alongside him and currently operate 60/40 split between livestock and more general haulage.
