Go North East provides 72 million passenger journeys each year and employs around 2100 staff. The Company won the prestigious UK Bus Industry Award for Marketing in 2008. They have also been accredited ‘Investors in People’ status for excellence in developing, training and communicating with employees. The origins of the company can be traced back to 1897, when British Electron Traction acquired a major stake in Gateshead & District, Jarrow & District, and Tynemouth Electric Traction companies from their respective local councils. In the mid 1980s the company reformed as Go-Ahead Northern which then became the founding company of Go-Ahead Group.
